Free Wireless Computing at the Library
You are invited to explore The Clifton Park - Halfmoon Public Library's fast Internet network using your own wireless-enabled laptop computer. Free access is provided in all public areas and all times the library is open. Simply launch your Web browser. Your computer's home page will appear and you may begin surfing immediately. Note: no wired ethernet connectivity is available to the public.
Limitations and Disclaimers
The Library's wireless network is not secure. Information sent from or to your laptop can be captured by anyone else with a wireless device with WiFi-compliant 802.11b or g and the appropriate software, within three hundred feet. Library staff is not able to provide technical assistance and no guarantee can be provided that you will be able to make a wireless connection. The Library assumes no responsibility for the safety of equipment or for laptop configurations, security, or data files resulting from connection to the Library's network.
All users of the Library's wireless network are expected to abide by the Wireless Internet Use and Computer and Internet Use policies.
Troubleshooting Wireless Connectivity
- library should be in the list of available networks. If it is not, check to make sure that the wireless is turned on and enabled in the device. Many computers have a button near the keyboard or a switch on the side that disables the wireless card in their device and/or a way to disable the wireless in software settings.
- If you see library, but cannot connect, check to make sure that your wireless settings are set to obtain an IP address automatically.
- Not all VPNs are able to connect to the Library's wireless network. Library staff is not able to diagnose VPN connection problems.
